Newsletter - June, 2008
A Chosen Few arrived on my doorstep in May, almost a month early. Many of you ordered from me right away, wanting to be the first to read Book III in my Between the Rivers trilogy. Thank you very much for the vote of confidence. I t was you wanting the new book that helped me keep my nose to the grindstone. So far, your comments have blown me away. Thank you!
On June 11th, Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh, hosted me for my first ACF discussion and book signing. An hour prior to that, my Meredith College Alumnae Book Club gathered in the back room to wish me good luck. After a glass of wine and a few delicious nibbles, I was ready to face the capacity crowd that greeted me in the front of the store. As always, Nancy Olson's staff took care of every detail and we sold a lot of books.
The following Saturday, we hauled books down to the Penderlea Homestead Museum where a special day to honor Eleanor Roosevelt's visit to Penderlea on June 11, 1937, was underway. It was truly a literary event as the museum presented a new cookbook, Recipes and Remembrances: A Penderlea Homestead Collection, compiled by the first child born on Penderlea, Frances Murphy Love, and her sister Betty Murphy Klavins. In addition to the cookbook and my new book, Ann Cottle signed copies of her book, The Roots of Pendelea.
On Wednesday, June 18, the Cary Barnes & Noble book store hosted a well-attended discussion and signing for ACF with their lovely CRM Linda Maloof presiding. Linda has welcomed me to Barnes & Noble on three occasions. Each time she has prepared herself by reading the book and initiating questions that elicit interesting discussions. That warms any author's heart.
On Saturday, June 21, Pender County beckoned again, this time to the Blueberry Festival in Burgaw. Despite early morning showers, Al Owens from the Penderlea Homestead Museum was able to set up a small tent and once again the Penderlea books were offered for sale. To my delight, I made the front page of The Pender Post, with a review of A Chosen Few by Jefferson Weaver, an outstanding newspaper man and journalist. My heart be still!
I'm going to take a break for the next few weeks, but please call or write me if you would like to schedule a book club discussion, or a book store signing event. My fall calendar is beginning to fill up, so please contact me at your earliest convenience. As always, signed books are available directly from me at P.O. Box 6, Cary, NC 27512.
Have a great summer!
